Crusader Diorama - Terrain pt2

5th Step:

After the Sand dries, turn the whole piece and tap on the back to remove the excess sand. Once the whole piece is well dry undercoat the whole thing with a black primer (I used spray paint which can be found easily from ironmongers). After the undercoat dries up I applied the firs coat. I used Hempel paints throughout, I started by using a color which looks the same as the Scorched brown by GW. Afterward I applied an over coat of a color which looks like the Dark flesh from GW as well. A heavy Dry brush of a color like Vermin Brown and finally a heavy dry brush of Bleached Bone. If you want to know what the actual color names are leave me a message.

After the paint was dry I applied small pacthes of glue and sprinkled the static grass gradually over them.

Will be posting a picture of the result soon, hope you enjoy!

Crusader Diorama - Terrain pt1

This is a very basic guide to how I made the terrain.

1st Step:
I bought an A1 foam board sheet. You can find foam boards from frame makers and hobby shops. Got some terrain supplies such as:
  • Static Grass
  • Sand-got some natural fine grained sand from a beach and a bag of small rocks from a hobby shop
  • Newspaper-for the rocks
  • Plaster
2nd Step:
Cut the foam board into the desired size and glued it to a wooden board of equal size. Afterward I removed the layer of cardboard so that I can shape the foam how I wished. from the scraps I had left I fashioned out 2 pieces of foam board to make a hill and another 2 pieces for a rocky hill. Then I glued the pieces together and glued them to the foam.

3rd Step:
I used a page from the newspaper to shape out the rocks for one of the hills and glued it to the hill. Then I mixed some of the plaster with water and used a shaped out piece of wood to apply the plaster to the hills. Afterward I used a brush and diluted plaster to shape out the plaster appropriately and got this:

4th Step:
I applied glue to several areas for the sand and then applied sand gradually. Obtaining this result:

Crusader Diorama

Hey guys,
This is a brief description of the first diorama which I am going to be working on.

Basically I'm a huge huge fan of the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" and recently (after browsing through several miniature catalogs) I decided to build a Crusader fight diorama.

Miniatures:
I will be using the Italeri 1/72 Templar Knights models to represent the crusaders.

and the Italeri 1/72 Saracen warriors to represent the Saracens.

Terrain:

I have already finished the terrain. It was simple and took me less then 3 hours to do. I will be posting a guide on how I did it. I know it isn't the best of terrains but I'm quite satisfied with it.

I'll be keeping you posted and updated!

Introduction

Heya,

Well first of all welcome and thanks for visiting my blog! My blog is basically based on me being a miniature hobbyist and collector. I will be featuring and showing stuff which I do, see and other information which I find useful concerning miniatures and the hobby.

About me,
My name is Robson Scerri, I'm 18 years old and I'm from Malta. I am currently attending for the BTEC National Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at a local college (Mcast).
My main hobby is collecting miniatures as well as wargaming, pc gaming and other stuff.
Recently me and a friend visited a model exhibition here in Malta and the dioramas and brilliant talent of the poeple taking part in this exhibition got me excited to paintg and build my own and take my hobby further than just wargaming.

I will keep updating this blog with my work and others and useful information (guides etc..) all about the hobby.
